Kenneth Martin Mahuluhulu (32) a fugitive from justice alleged to have defrauded the Department of Labour’s (DoL) Compensation Fund (CF) more than a million rand was today (August 31) granted a bail of R5 000 in the Pretoria Commercial Crime Court.
Mahuluhulu, an information technology (IT) boffin was on Wednesday (August 29) arrested at his place of work at the University of South Africa (Unisa) after two years on the run. The runaway man is allegedly accused of acting in furtherance of common purpose working as a member of a syndicate of defrauding the Department of Labour R1,2 million. He faces a charge of fraud.
The Proclamation Hill, West of Pretoria-based deserter is alleged to have siphoned the Department of Labour by submitting fictitious claims working in collaboration with a syndicate that included a former employee of the DoL’s Compensation Fund.
Mahuluhulu is alleged to been evading justice since 2010. His alleged misdemeanours were committed between 2006/9.
Magistrate N. Setshogoe told the court that the IT service desk agent would be granted a bail because he was not a flight risk. Setshogoe postponed Mahuluhulu’s matter to 16 October. The accused was warned to report at least once a week at the Sunnyside police station and not to interfere with state witnesses and investigations.
The Compensation Fund is a public entity of the Department of Labour. The Fund provides for cover for occupational diseases and injuries.
