‘Find Your Way 2010’

Soccer fans should not be concerned about finding their way to various stadiums for 2010 FIFA World Cup games, says the Department of Transport.

It has developed a web portal called ‘Find Your Way 2010’, which is interactive and continually updated. This was revealed by the department during a presentation of its plans for the soccer showpiece, to the Portfolio Committee on Tourism.

The website will carry updated traffic and transport information, 24 hours a day to help fans plan their trips with real time route and traffic information on world cup host cities at their fingertips.

The Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Tourism, Mr Donald Gumede, commended the presentation and said it was an indication that the nation was ready for the tournament.

"Initiatives such as these will definitely boost tourism to our country. The presentation given here makes us to be proud as South Africans. We are ready, we can indeed feel it, the 2010 FIFA World Cup is here," Mr Gumede said.

The committee is concerned about the accessibility of the website to rural communities, where internet access is still a challenge.

The department will also have a call centre from 1 June until 31 July, 2010. The call centre will also operate 24 hours a day and will provide information via SMS, landline and cell phones, fax and e-mail.
