Statistician-General Pali Lehohla releases monograph reports on Mortality, Fertility and Population dynamics, 28 Oct

Please note that the media briefing scheduled for today (28 October 2015) at 10H00 to release monograph reports on Mortality in South Africa, Fertility in South Africa and Population Dynamics of South Africa has been postponed due to unforeseen circumstances.

The Statistician-General, Mr Pali Lehohla, will release three monograph reports on Mortality, Fertility and Population dynamics in South Africa on Wednesday, 28 October 2015 in Pretoria.

The three monographs reports will be on:

  • Mortality in South Africa – which is an assessment of mortality data quality and completeness of reporting on mortality.  The monograph also covers Infant, child, adult and maternal mortality using a variety of methods  as well as an estimation of Life Expectancy and disability free life expectancy
  • Fertility in South Africa – an assessment of fertility data as well as an analysis of average parity and parity progression and also provides an estimation of fertility measures
  • Population Dynamics of South Africa – which reviews key demographic data and an analysis of the age structure of the country. It will also provide an analysis related to the existence of a Demographic Dividend

Findings from these monographs, along with administrative sources of data and household surveys, form a basis on which the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that have recently been launched by the United Nations and endorsed by South Africa are reported on.
