Zero Hunger Summit

The Honourable MEC for Rural Development and Agrarian Reform Zoleka Capa will host a one day Zero Hunger Summit with the aim of interacting with the traditional and religious leaders on poverty eradication matters.

The MEC is of the view that these stakeholders holds a key role in the communities and can play an important role in ensuring that the lives of rural people are developed in bid to eradicate poverty.

As the Champion of Poverty Eradication in the province, the MEC seeks to engage all stakeholders with the intention of developing rural areas and come up with an integrated approach to realise the department’s mandate of rural development.

Traditional leaders’ participation is critical as it will assist the department in realising and assessing the land related issues while the religious leaders are essential for mobilising people in a bid to make the province a food basket.

The department has a vision of ensuring every arable land, be it in church, school or in the communal area should be ploughed so that all people can participate in eradicating poverty and economic development of the province.

During the summit the department hopes to get inputs that will help in coming up with a workable solution to fight poverty and underdevelopment with the emphasis on the rural areas. The MEC has invited all other MEC’s from the Social Needs Cluster and all provincial Kings.

Robust debates and discussion will enhance the department’s goal to make the people of this province are able to feed themselves.
