Youth Summit on Water and Climate Change

As part of Youth Month celebrations the Department of Water Affairs will be hosting a Youth Summit on Water and Climate Change at the Birchwood Hotel, in Boksburg from 24 to 28 June 2011.

This year’s theme is, "Active participation of youth in water resource management can make a difference.”

The Annual Youth Summit model has been developed in line with 2020 Vision Programme of the Department of Water Affairs which uses education as a critical response to achieving behavioural change to issues of water literacy and careers. This programme exposes grade R-12 learners to develop inventions to address water problems in their communities which are presented at the Youth Water Summit during Youth Month.

A total of 500 delegates including educators and learners from across the country are expected to attend the Summit, amongst them will be learners from the neighbouring countries in the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region.

The activities of the five days Youth Summit will include national competitions, excursions, debates, lectures and many more.

Learners from Grade 9 to Grade 12 are invited to visit the Career Exhibitions that would run concurrently with the summit. Career Exhibitions aims to encourage young people to follow careers in the Water Sector.
