Youth Summit

The Department of Social Development is hosting a Youth Summit at the Horseshoe Motel in Kimberley from the 24 to 28 October 2011. The programme starts at 8h30 daily.

The main aim of the seminar is to engage on issues that affect the development of the youth. Therefore the overall objective of the Youth Seminar is creating dialogue between government, private sector and youth. Of equal importance is the acceleration of Youth Empowerment through the provision of access to information on the type of programmes and services offered by both government and private sector.

Some of the strategic objectives of the dialogue included the following:

  • Promote sound knowledge of programmes and services offered to young people
  • Establish sustainable partnerships
  • Invest and promote responsible citizenship among young people

This is also in part an attempt to rediscover and restore the values of ubuntu: ‘you are because I am and I am because you are’. There is a growing concern that South Africa is witnessing

The media is invited to attend the youth seminar.
