World Food Day 2009 celebrations

The Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (DAFF), Limpopo Department of Agriculture (LDA) in partnership with the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), will celebrate World Food Day with the community of Muyexe Village in Giyani, Limpopo.

Muyexe is one of the key presidential priority areas earmarked for the Comprehensive Rural Development Programme (CRDP). The main objective of World Food Day is to create awareness of the fight against hunger. This year World Food Day is celebrated under the theme, “Achieving food security in times of crisis.”

There will be a working session in the morning where the Minister of Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, Ms Tina Joemat- Pettersson together with the first lady, Ms Sizakele Khumalo (Makhumalo), MEC of the LDA, Ms Dipuo Letsatsi-Duba, and FAO representative, Ms Rosebud Kurwijila, will set up a tower garden.

Members of the media are therefore invited to take part in the celebrations.
