World Food Day

Members of the media are invited to join the Western Cape Department of Agriculture on 14 October 2011 at Doringbaai in the West Coast, in celebrating World Food Day. Doringbaai is a community of 1 300 to 2 000 people situated in the West Coast District Municipality of the Western Cape Province in the Republic of South Africa.

The township lies about 50 kilometres West of Vredendal and 30km north of Lambertsbaai.

The aim of the event is to heighten public awareness of the world food problem and strengthen solidarity in the struggle against hunger, malnutrition and poverty. The theme for World Food Day this year is "Food prices: From crisis to stability." Gerrit van Rensburg, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Western Cape will deliver the keynote address.
