The Safety at Sport and Recreational Events Act came into effect on 2 August 2010.
As part of its education drive on legislation, Sport and Recreation South Africa is planning a series of workshops on the Safety at Sport and Recreational Events Act. The first of these workshops takes place on 4 and 5 April 2011, in Cape Town.
The Act deals with ensuring responsibility for safety and security at events. It instructs a controlling body, an event organiser or venue owner to put certain measures in place to ensure the physical safety and security of persons and property at an event. The Act also provides for the activation of public liability insurance. It seeks to put a stop to ticket touting and also stipulates what type of information must appear on event tickets.
The Cape Town event is scheduled as follows:
Date: 4 to 5 April 2011
Venue: Cape Town International Convention Centre
Time: 08h30 for 09h00
