The Free State Department of Education will host a two day rural education workshop on Thursday, 24 to 25 March in Bloemfontein at Vista University Arena at 08h00.
The purpose of the workshop targeting farm school principal is to deliberate on learner support issues such transport, feeding scheme, hostels, HIV and AIDS and learner pregnancy.
Health, agriculture and social development departments and the South African Police Service will also elaborate on their support programmes offered to address some of the challenges faced by farm learners.
The workshop to be attended by 600 delegates is one of the departmental interventions geared at improving quality learning and teaching in rural schools by offering proper support to farm school principals.
As part of improving rural education 13 000 books will be donated and handed over to the department at the summit by Sony SA where about 153 farm schools will benefit from the programme. Laptops and a mobile library bus will also be handed over to the head of department by South African Primary Education Support Initiative (SAPESI).
