Human settlements Minister Tokyo Sexwale will hand over 56 houses built by volunteers participating in the 2012 Women’s Build KwaMathukuza, Newcastle KwaZulu-Natal under the theme “Together let’s do more”.
The Minister will be accompanied by the MEC for Human Settlements and Public Works in KwaZulu-Natal, Ravi Pillay and the mayor of Newcastle local municipality, Afzul Rehman.
More than 80 women participated in the construction of 56 houses for the elderly, women and child headed households and the vulnerable families in KwaMathukuza to commemorate the 1956 women’s march to the Union Buildings.
Women’s build is a Letsema project coordinated annually during women’s month. It is a partnership project between government, the private sector and the community to raise consciousness about the construction sector and the women’s role in it. It also promotes volunteerism and women’s access to human settlements economic opportunities.
The build will also fast track human settlements delivery in KwaMathukuza.
