Tomorrow, Minister Donald Grant will be participating in a number of events in celebration of World Book Day (23 April 2012)
Event 1: Making books ‘library-ready’
Time: 09h30
Venue: The forecourt of Sunclare Building in front of the Juta Bookshop, Dreyer Street Claremont.
Minister Grant will be assisting volunteers in making books “library-ready” for handover to The Bookery. It will then distribute them to schools, libraries and communities around the Western Cape which have been identified as needing them most. The initiative has been organized by Juta & Company in celebration of World Book Day 2012.
Juta is donating R700 000 worth of its own book stock to the initiative. Members of the public can get involved by bringing or buying a book / books and donating them; or by spending an hour on-site making the books library-ready by sorting, covering and labelling the books.
Event 2: Opening of school library
Time: 13h00
Venue: Sosebenza Primary, 1 Nkululeko Street, M Section Site-B, KHAYELITSHA
Minister Grant will be joining members from The Bookery at the opening of a school library in Khayelitsha. Minister Grant will be showing his support for the initiative and will be speaking at the event.
Event 3: World Book Day event and book handover
Time: 15h00
Venue: Klapmuts Primary School, Merchantstraat, Klapmuts
Minister Grant will be attending a World Book Day celebration event. 14 participating schools will be receiving materials and books donated by publishers and booksellers. The Minister will be delivering the keynote address.
