The Western Cape government firmly believes in the importance of parental involvement in their child’s education. There are many things a parent can do at home to help build their child’s reading, writing and maths skills.
This year, we want to encourage our parents even further to get involved. If we are to consider the latest literacy and numeracy results in the Western Cape, it is imperative that they do.
In January we initiated a campaign which includes the display of a number of billboards and banners in targeted areas around the Western Cape, which highlight the role parents play in making education better together, by assisting and encouraging their children to practise reading, writing and calculating everyday.
Western Cape Education MEC Donald Grant will be at the Gugulethu Square shopping mall where he will be addressing parents outside one of the doors that displays this message. He has written a personal letter to parents which he will be handing out explaining what roles they can play in building their child’s reading, writing and maths skills.
This is probably one of the most important messages any parent of a child at school should hear and we would appreciate the media’s support in carrying this message even further!
The meeting is scheduled as follows:
Date: Thursday, 9 February 2012
Time: 10h30
Venue: Gugulethu Square shopping mall, NY1 Street, Gugulethu (previously the Eyona Centre) – Gate number will be announced.
