Tomorrow, MEC Grant will be visiting Mfuleni Secondary in Kuilsrivier where Grade 12 learners are participating in a “Winter School” in preparation for the 2012 National Senior Certificate Examinations.
With only 102 days to go before the start of the 2012 NSC, the Western Cape Education Department (WCED) has initiated a number of Winter School programmes across the province which offers extra tuition for learners in various subjects to help improve individual learner results.
These subjects include Mathematics, Physical Science, Geography, Life Sciences, Accounting and Economics. Many of the programmes on offer will be taught by tutors selected by the WCED.
We have developed strict criteria in terms of tutor selection (proven record of success at the schools at which they teach) to ensure that these learners are receiving the best possible tuition from recognised experts in their fields.
Tomorrow, MEC Grant will be sitting in on one of the classes, and will then address the learners. Media will then be able to interview learners during their tea break period.
The MEC will also explain to the press the various other interventions by the WCED to help improve learner results, specifically at underperforming schools.
