Western Cape MEC for Cultural Affairs and Sport, Ivan Meyer speaks at South African Junior Tug-of-War Championships

The Western Cape MEC of Cultural Affairs and Sport, Dr. Ivan Meyer, will be speaking at the official opening of Junior South African (SA) Tug-of-War Championships tomorrow. SA school tug of war has grown to become the third largest school event is South Africa.

A total of 202 teams have signed up for the forthcoming event, the largest number ever and will be competing in three 3 divisions, namely, Boys boots with Drostdy School and Oakdale school as the favourites; Girls boots with Montana (Worcester), Paarl and Jan Kriel (WP) the favourites and the Barefoot division (primary schools) with Suurbraak (SWD), Goudini (Boland), Simon van der Stel (WP) and Helderberg (WP) as the favourites.

The 560kg boys boots division winner will represent SA at the Junior World Championships in Switzerland during September 2012.
