Western Cape Education Department to launch the Encyclopaedia Britannica Education Pilot programme

On Monday, Minister Grant will be launching the Western Cape Education Department (WCED) Encyclopaedia Britannica Education Pilot programme at the Cape Teaching and Leadership Institute.

Forty-six schools, winners of our 2010 literacy and numeracy awards, will take part in the pilot programme.

Each school will be provided unlimited access to the full Encyclopaedia Britannica on-line through the WCED e-learning website.

As part of the programme, representatives from Britannica, who have flown in from the United Kingdom, and Sangari South Africa will be training teachers from the pilot schools on how to use the service in a series of interactive workshops. Once trained they will bring these skills back to their schools to train other educators and learners on how to fully utilise the service and make use of the extensive range of research materials available.

The first training session will take place on Monday after the opening address.

Where: Computer Lab, CEI Training Unit, Cape Teaching and Leadership Institute (CTLI), Nooiensfontein Road, Kuils River.
