Water may dry up in Gauteng by 2013

The Department of Local Government and Housing will hold a workshop on Thursday, 17 September 2009 on water conservation and demand management.

The workshop is expected to discuss ways to curb water loss in the province. This comes in the wake of information that the main water supplier to Gauteng, the Vaal River, may run out of enough water to supply the entire province by 2013.

Delegates from all Gauteng municipalities, Department of Environmental and Water Affairs and the Development Bank of Southern Africa (DBSA) will discuss various ways to monitor and drive the implementation of the water conservation and demand management strategy in the province.

Gauteng local government and Housing MEC, Kgaogelo Lekgoro is expected to deliver a keynote address at the workshop.

Details of the event are as follows:

Venue: Gallagher Estate, Midrand
Time: 09h00
Date: Thursday, 17 September 2009
