Water and Sanitation celebrates National Water Week in Limpopo, 17 Mar

It is that time of the year again where the Department of Water and Sanitation will be celebrating National Water Week (NWW). It will be celebrated from 16–22 March 2015 under the theme: “Water has no substitute.”

The National Water Week is an awareness week campaign that serves as a tool to re-iterate the value of water, the need for sustainable management of this scarce resource and the role water plays in eradicating poverty and under-development in South Africa. The campaign seeks to continue building the spirit of water conservation and demand management and protection of water resources within South African community.

During the event, Deputy Minister Pamela Tshwete will hand over a media center to Marota Primary School. The school participated in the 2014 Baswa le Meetse competitions nationally and won position one under Poetry category. The school became eligible for MTN media classroom which consist of 20 computers which come with: connection to internet, scientific programmes loaded into computers and training of 5 educators. In addition, the school won a cash prize of R6 000.

Baswa le Meetse programme is aimed at recognising the achievements made by learners in Grade 6 by educating the society about integrated water resources management, water use efficiency as well as health and hygiene awareness. Participation is encouraged in the following categories: traditional music, poetry, drama, poster and praise singing.

It is envisaged that the media centre will have an impact on the school now that learners will learn computer skills. The Deputy Minister, acting Limpopo MEC for Education, Executive Mayor of Sekhukhune District and the Mayor of Tubatse Local Municipality and the Managing Director of MTN Foundation will officially hand over media classroom.
