Municipal ward by-elections will take place in six provinces namely Eastern Cape, Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal, Limpopo, North West and Western Cape on Wednesday, 19 September 2012.
A total of six wards will be contested. Voting will take place in 29 voting districts in the following wards:
Eastern Cape:
- Ward 7 in Senqu [Barkly East] Municipality – EC142 with 3 290 registered voters. The ward was previously represented by the African National Congress and became vacant as a result of the death of the councillor.
Gauteng:
- Ward 64 in Ekurhuleni [East Rand] Municipality – EKU with 14 393 registered voters. The ward was previously represented by the African National Congress and became vacant as a result of the death of the councillor.
KwaZulu-Natal:
- Ward 12 in Nongoma [Nongoma] Municipality – KZN265 with 4 591 registered voters. The ward was previously represented by the Inkatha Freedom Party and became vacant as a result of the death of the councillor.
Limpopo:
- Ward 13 in Polokwane [Pietersburg] Municipality – LIM354 with 6 762 registered voters. The ward was previously represented by the African National Congress and became vacant as a result of the death of the councillor.
North West:
- Ward 10 in Ditsobotla [Lichtenburg] Municipality – NW384 with 3 604 registered voters. The ward was previously represented by the African National Congress and became vacant as a result of the death of the councillor.
Western Cape:
- Ward 88 in City of Cape Town [Cape Town] – CPT with 17 245 registered voters. The ward was previously represented by the African National Congress and became vacant as a result of the death of the councillor.
