Social Development hosts Maryland State of the United States of America delegation, 2 and 5 Feb

Maryland State of the United States of America to pay a working visit to the Department of Social Development of the Republic of South Africa as part of bilaterial cooperation agreement between the two states

Representatives from the Maryland State of the United States of America will arrive in the country this week on a working visit to the  Department of Social Development as part of the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) entered into between the two states in May last year.

The Department of Social Development of the Republic of South Africa signed a MOU with the Maryland State of the United States of America in May 2017, giving effect to bilateral cooperation between the two countries on matters of mutual interest.

In accordance with provisions of the implementation of the MOU between the two parties, priority areas were identified to be implemented from the beginning of 2018 to 31 December 2019.

The identified priority areas of bilateral cooperation include improvement of Early Childhood Development programmes, Alcohol and Substance Abuse and the Social Work programme as a profession.

The two parties will also share best practices in an attempt improve service delivery of social development services to communities in both South Africa and the Maryland State. The Representatives from the Maryland State are expected to visit different social development projects in Gauteng and Mpumalanga Provinces from 01 January to 12 February.
