His Excellency President Jacob Zuma is scheduled to lead a South African delegation to the Extra-ordinary Summit of the African Union, which will take place in Addis Ababa on Saturday, 12 October 2013, under the theme: “Africa’s Relationship with the International Criminal Court (ICC)”.
It is expected that the Summit will consider the AU Progress Report of the Commission on Peace and Security on the implementation of Decision Assembly/AU/Dec.482 (XXI) on International Jurisdiction, Justice and the ICC. The report sets out the history of the relationship between the ICC and the African Union.
The Summit is also expected to appoint a new Commissioner responsible for Peace and Security within the African Union Structures, after the recent resignation of His Excellency Ambassador Ramtane Lamamra. The latter has been appointed as Foreign Minister of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria.
President Zuma will be accompanied by Ms Maite Nkoana-Mashabane, Minister of International Relations and Cooperation and Mr Jeff Radebe, Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development. The summit will be preceded by the Fifteenth Extra-Ordinary Session of the Executive Council on Friday, 11 October 2013, where Minister Nkoana-Mashabane will lead the South African Delegation.
