At the invitation of His Excellency President Joseph Kabila Kabange, His Excellency President Jacob Zuma will undertake a State Visit to the Democratic Republic of Congo from 29 to 30 October 2013.
The two Presidents are expected to discuss political, economic and security cooperation and pay particular focus on the search for peace and stability in the eastern part of the DRC and the Great Lakes Region.
South Africa is playing a critical part in the promotion and consolidation of peace and stability in the DRC by contributing troops to the United Nations Stabilisation Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo (MONUSCO), as well as a Battalion serving as part of the MONUSCO Intervention Brigade established under the United Nations (UN) Security Council Resolution 2098.
South Africa is also a signatory to the UN/AU Peace, Security and Cooperation Framework for the Democratic Republic of Congo and the region, signed on 24 February 2013. The growing bilateral economic cooperation between South Africa and the DRC will receive added impetus through a two-day Business Forum to be held in Kinshasa on 29 and 30 October 2013.
This Forum will devise appropriate mechanisms to expand economic cooperation and investments between the two countries.
President Zuma will be accompanied by a ministerial delegation comprising of the Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Ms Maite Nkoana-Mashabane, the Minister for Performance Monitoring and Evaluation, Mr Collins Chabane, the Minister of Defence and Military Veterans, Ms Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula; the Minister of Police, Mr Nathi Mthethwa; the Minister of Energy, Mr Dikobe Ben Martins and the Minister of Trade and Industry, Dr Rob Davis.
President Zuma will also be accompanied by a business delegation.
