President Jacob Zuma attends 70th Anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War in Moscow, 9 May

President Jacob Zuma is to attend the commemoration of the 70th Anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War in Moscow, at the invitation of President Vladimir Putin of the Russian Federation.

The annual Victory Day Celebrations on the 9th of May, marks the Soviet Union's victory over Nazi Germany during the Second World War.

The visit will further cement the strong and warm relations between South Africa and the Russian Federation which are expressed through cooperation in political, economic, social, defence and security areas.

Earlier this year, the Russian Federation worked with South Africa to facilitate the historic repatriation of heroes of the struggle for liberation Mr JB Marks and Mr Moses Kotane back to South Africa. They were reburied in the North West province.

President Zuma will be accompanied by Ms Maite Nkoana-Mashabane, the Minister of International Relations and Cooperation and Ms Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula, the Minister of Defence and Military Veterans.
