Mpumalanga Premier David Mabuza will this week honour an invitation from the President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Samsung Electronics Africa Mr KK Park to visit the headquarters of a South Korean multinational electronics regarded as the world’s largest information technology company.
The visit to Seoul also follows the successful hosting of Samsung Smart Government Expo in Mbombela Stadium last year in September where the company shared with Mpumalanga provincial government how its “turnkey solutions” could improve efficiency, productivity and result in cost savings.
The company also demonstrated first-hand, how their business-to-business products and solutions could unlock potential within government. Mpumalanga Provincial Government has identified Information and Communications Technology as a key driver for socio-economic development in the province, and is desirous of cooperating and working with Samsung Electronics.
During a week-long visit, 1 to 5 April 2013, the premier is expected to sign a memorandum of understanding and cooperate with Samsung Electronics on the following areas:
Smart Education solutions:
- Roll out solar-powered internet schools in deep rural areas without power and computer labs.
- Roll out solar power generators in schools where they are buildings but lack power sources.
- Roll out smart schools in affluent and government schools with buildings, power, internet, history of using technology effectively and can sustain fully multimedia and digital classrooms.
Smart healthcare solution:
- Jointly deploy the proof of concept solar-powered health centre in communities in Mpumalanga.
Smart safety and security solution:
- Develop capability on mobile application development.
e-Government solution:
- Identify the e-Gov priority projects in various sectors that can be implemented through this partnership.
Smart job creation solution:
- Partner with Mpumalanga Provincial Government to implement skills development programs for employment. This could include an Engineering Academy program at the new University to be established in the province.
The premier will be accompanied by Community Safety, Security and Liaison MEC Vusi Shongwe, Education MEC Regina Mhaule, and the provincial Director-General Dr Nonhlanhla Mkhize.
The Premier has also been signed-up for a free medical check-up which is an offer given by the company to its premium partners around the world. This will also give the Premier an opportunity to experience first-hand the best-of-the-best in medical facilities and equipment manufacturing.
The site visit and the medical check-up at Samsung Hospital is expected to provide the Premier an opportunity to benchmark for Mpumalanga province the advanced hospital management and equipment.
According to the premier, the mission will be conducted with the noblest intent to benefit the citizens of Mpumalanga.
