Minister Faith Muthambi attends World Government Summit in Dubai, 11 to 13 Feb

Minister for the Public Service and Administration, Ms. Faith Muthambi, will today, Sunday, 11 February 2018, participate in the 6th edition of the World Government Summit that will be held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, from the 11th-13th February 2018 at the invitation of the Dubai, UAE Minister of State for Happiness and Vice-President, Mr. Ohood Al Roumi.     

Under the theme “Shaping Future Governments”, the summit will focus on; 

  • Technological Advances,
  • Evolving Citizen Expectations,
  • Future Trends in Government Services,
  • Leadership and Innovation and
  • Building “Partnerships to Support Innovation” in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.

Previous speakers include; Former President of the United States, Barack Obama, Secretary General of the United Nations, Ban Ki Moon, and President of Rwanda, Paul Kagame, amongst others.

The World Government Summit draws Ministers across the globe. Speakers at this year’s Summit will include the Prime Minister of India, Mr. Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister of France, His Excellency (H.E) Eduoard Philippe, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi Sheik Mohammed bin Zayed, Special Envoy for the Ocean – United Nations, H.E. Peter William Thomson, Senior Vice-President World Bank Group, Mahmoud Mohieldin, and Slovenia Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Public Administration, amongst others.       

The Global Dialogue brings together over 139 countries, 280 speakers, 4000 world leaders, policy makers, academics, and international experts from around the world to discuss the importance of happiness and wellbeing, and the imperative role of governments in creating happy and positive societies.  

The event is in partnership with key international organisations including the United Nations, World Bank, International Monetary Fund and Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development. 

Each year the Summit sets the agenda for the next generation of governments with a focus on how they can harness innovation and technology to solve universal challenges facing humanity.  

South Africa through the Ministry of Public Service and Public Administration, has in the past participated in this Summit at the invitation of the UAE government. 

Minister was received by Protocol of the Consul General His Excellency Mr Mogobo David Magabe. The reception was also done on behalf of the South African Embassy in Abu Dhabi.
