Minister Nzimande attends the Global Education and Skills Forum in Dubai

The Minister of Higher Education and Training, Dr. Blade Nzimande, MP, will be attending the Global Skills and Education Forum held in Dubai from 15 to 17 March 2014.

Convened under the theme, “Exchanging our Vision: Employment, Education and Equity”, the Forum will provide an opportunity for engagements with Government leaders, leaders in education, captains of industry and other key role players in the education space on the post-2015 education development agenda and the role of the private sector.

At the Forum, Minister Nzimande will participate in panel discussion on the sub-theme, “Whither higher education – the ‘vocational’ or ‘applied’ skills perspective?” This panel discussion seeks to probe, among others, the need for the replacement of traditional university courses that focus on theory by courses that emphasis applied specialist skills.

The future role of academic learning will also be on the spotlight during the panel discussion. The panelists will also venture into discussing the evolution of university-business relations and the type of skill mixes that are required by the labour markets.

The Global Skills and Education Forum is in support of the UN Secretary General’s Global Education First Initiative to which President Zuma was appointed as one of the Member State Champions.
