Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa undertakes a working visit to Lesotho, 13 to 14 Feb

South African Deputy President and SADC Facilitator Cyril Ramaphosa will undertake a working visit to the Kingdom of Lesotho from today Friday to Saturday, 13 to 14 February 2015 as part of regional efforts to consolidate peace and security in the country.

The visit by Deputy President Ramaphosa this week arises from a decision of President Jacob Zuma the current Chairperson of the SADC Troika Organ on Politics, Defence and Security, during a meeting with the Lesotho government coalition delegation led by Prime Minister Tom Thabane, held in Pretoria on Monday, 9 February 2015.

During the meeting, the Lesotho government delegation had raised issues around the security situation; reported violations of the Maseru Facilitation and Security Accords as well as requests for SADC to consider further support for the brought forward elections scheduled for 28 February 2015. The delegation had expressed their satisfaction with the work of the SADC facilitation mission led by Deputy President Ramaphosa.

President Zuma had accordingly directed that the Facilitator Deputy President Ramaphosa undertakes a visit to Lesotho as soon as possible to interact with various role-players within Lesotho with a view to addressing issues raised during the Pretoria meeting

Deputy President Ramaphosa is expected to return to the Republic on Saturday, 14 February 2015.
