Deputy Minister Thandi Moraka visits Jordan and the UAE, 15 to 24 Aug

The Deputy Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Ms Thandi Moraka, is paying an Official Visit to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and the United Arab Emirates from 15 to 24 August 2025.

The key objectives set for the visits to Jordan, and the UAE are to strengthen bilateral relations, with a priority focus on strengthening government-to-government relations, as well as expanding economic cooperation through targeted engagements with businesses. Furthermore, the visit is aimed at promoting strengthened people-to-people cooperation.

During the visit to Jordan, the Deputy Minister held the inaugural round of Bilateral Consultations with her Jordanian counterpart, Ambassador Majid Thalji Al Qatarneh. These consultations provided the foundation for future engagements and will pave the way of enhancing cooperation between the two countries.

To expand economic cooperation, South Africa seeks to establish frameworks that encourage private sector participation, particularly in sectors with high growth potential.

Investment missions, trade delegations, and bilateral platforms are integral to fostering bilateral partnerships. Both the UAE and Jordan’s interest in diversifying their economies, align with South Africa’s broader commitment to expand market opportunities as well as to promote intra-African trade under the African Continental Free Trade Area.

To promote bilateral tourism between South Africa and Jordan, Deputy Minister Moraka visited Jordanian historically significant, as well as world heritage sites. The Deputy Minister met with the Secretary General of the Baptismal Site, Engineer Rustom Mkhlian. During a visit to the UNESCO World Heritage site in Petra, she met with the Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the Petra Development and Tourism Region Authority (PDTRA), HE Dr Fares Braizat.

Deputy Minister Moraka interacted with women-owned businesses to establish collaboration partnerships with South African women in the creative industries and furniture sectors.
