South African delegation to participate at the African Union Specialised Technical Committee on Communication and Information Technologies (STC-CICT)
A delegation from South African will participate at the African Union (AU) Extraordinary Session of the Specialised Technical Committee (STC) on Communication and ICT (CICT). Deputy Minister of the Department of Communications Ms Tandi Mahambehlala and the Deputy Minister of Department of Telecommunications and Postal Services Ms Stella Tembisa Ndabeni-Abrahams will both be leading the South African delegation.
The African Union Commission has invited the Government of South Africa as the member of the AU to the Extraordinary Session of the Specialised Technical Committee (STC) on Communication and ICT (CICT) to be held from 20 to 24 November 2017 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
The First Ordinary Session of the African Union Specialised Technical Committee (STC) on Communication and ICT (CCICT-1) took place from 3-4 September 2015 at the AU Headquarters. The Ministerial CCICT was preceded by a meeting of Senior Officials from 31 August-02 September 2015 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
The AU STC on CCICT-1 replaces the African Union Conferences of Ministers in charge of Communications and Information Technologies (CITMC). South Africa has served on the Bureau of the CITMC since its establishment in 2006.
South Africa was elected into the Bureau of the CCIT as the Rapporteur, representing the Southern Africa region. Other members of the Bureau were: Cote D’Ivoire (Chair represented West Africa); Tanzania (1st Vice Chair represented East Africa); Gabon (2nd Vice Chair represented Central Africa); and Algeria (3rd Vice Chair represented North Africa).
The main objectives of the CCICT sitting is to adopt strategies and Action Plans for projects and programmes implementation at the continental and regional levels for the Communication and ICT sectors
