Deputy Minister Nocawe Mafu embarks on a bilateral visit to Jamaica to sign a Programme of Cooperation (PoC) on Sport Development

The Deputy Minister for the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture, Ms Nocawe Mafu will lead a bilateral visit to Jamaica from Tuesday, 21 November – Friday, 24 November 2023 to sign a cooperation agreement in the field of School Sport Development. The Programme of Cooperation will be concluded with the Jamaican Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport, Ms Olivia Grange.

This bilateral visit is informed by the commitments made during the School Sport Indaba held between 14 and 15 September 2023 in South Africa wherein Jamaica made a presentation to share best practices on school sport development and sustainable programmes and policies.

The level of cooperation and interaction between South Africa and Jamaica since 1994 has significantly increased with the signing of bilateral agreements in a range of fields including Sport. “Sport Development is an area of focus for South Africa, with a key emphasis on reshaping School Sport Development. The visit will allow for sharing of best practises, ideas, and policies in place for sustainable school sport development pathway that will grow sporting programmes at grass root level and the signing of the Programme of Cooperation will foster commitment and cooperation between the two countries, said Deputy Minister Mafu.

Subsequently, as part of the visit, Deputy Minister Mafu will participate in several stakeholder engagements with sporting organisations including:
