Deputy Minister in the Presidency, Buti Manamela will attend the first ever global forum on youth policies scheduled to take place in Baku, Azerbaijan from 28 to 30 October 2014.

The Global Forum takes place while South Africa is in the process of drafting the National Youth Policy (NYP) 2015-2019 to build on the NYP 2009-2014 that will come to term at the end of this year. South Africa is one of the 122 countries of the 198 that have adopted a National Youth Policy.

Deputy Minister Manamela will also be a panelist at a panel discussion entitled "Guiding Principles for Integrated Youth Policies” where the principles that guide integrated, efficient and inclusive youth policies for the 21st century will be debated.

"We have accepted the invitation from the United Nations to participate at the Global Forum on Youth Policies because it will allow South Africa a platform to share experiences with other countries in drafting policies that respond to the needs, interests and aspirations of young people,” said Deputy Minister Manamela.

The forum aims to build a common understanding of guiding principles for integrated youth policy development and to share plans to develop a shared commitment to take youth policy forward.

The Global Forum on Youth Policies will be convened by the United Nations Secretary-General's Envoy, on Youth, Ahmad Alhendawi together with United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and the Council of Europe. It will be attended by youth policy experts from governments and parliaments from around the globe.

Deputy Minister Manamela will then proceed to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia where he will attend the African Union youth Minister's meeting themed "building an interface on youth, culture and sport” from 31 October - 1 November 2014.
