Deputy Minister Bogopane-Zulu to attend 2014 International Aids Conference in Melbourne Australia

The Deputy Minister for Social Development, Hon. Hendrietta Bogopane-Zulu, is attending the 2014 International AIDS Conference in Melbourne, Australia taking place from 20 until 25 July 2014.

International AIDS Conference is the largest international meeting on HIV and AIDS, where every two years 25 000 participants representing all stakeholders in the global response to HIV meet to assess progress and identify future priorities.

The conference with the theme “Stepping up the Pace” recognises that we are at a critical time and we need to capture the optimism that has recently emerged and build on it to ensure that HIV remains on top of the global agenda. The pace needs to further increase to ultimately reverse the trajectory of the epidemic.

Various organisations have been invited to speak on sessions focusing on:

  • Civil Society Workshop on Action on Social drivers to end AIDS and extreme poverty: Engaging broad civil society leadership in new initiatives to accelerate social, structural responses to the interrelated challenges of HIV/AIDS, inequality and extreme poverty;
  • Parliamentary meeting: Providing an update on the elimination of travel bans for people with HIV and AIDS; and
  • Violence, Culture and Conflict: Strategies for safety in a time of AIDS with special focus on Violence and Disability.

Date: Sunday, 20 to 25 July 2014
Venue: Melbourne, Australia
