United States of America Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton to pay courtesy call on African Union Commission chairperson, Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma

United States of America (USA) Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton will on Tuesday, 7 August 2012 pay a courtesy call on newly-elected Chairperson of the African Union (AU) Commission and Minister of Home Affairs Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma at the Presidential Guesthouse in Pretoria.

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is on an official visit to South Africa to consolidate existing bilateral political and economic relations between South Africa and the USA.

The meeting between Minister Dlamini Zuma and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton takes place against the background of the recent election of Minister Dlamini Zuma to the post of Chairperson of African Union.

Minister Dlamini Zuma’s election is the first for a woman leader and a candidate of the Southern region to occupy the position of the AU Commission Chairpersonship in 49 years since the establishment of the OAU and the ten years of the African Union.

South Africa remains convinced that in having made available Minister Dlamini Zuma for the post of the AU Commission Chairpersonship, it has contributed to the continent of Africa one of the best daughters our country has produced, convinced that she has both the capacity, political will and the necessary experience to assist the continent in its endeavours to create a better Africa in a better world, discharging its responsibilities internationally as an equal and reliable partner for sustainable development and contributing meaningfully to global peace and security.
