Two-hundred (200) rural Elliotdale residents to get new homes from multi-million rand integrated Human Settlements

Two hundred (200) Rural Elliot Dale Dwellers will get new homes replacing old mud structures they were living in for many years. The handover is part of a multi-million rand integrated human settlements plan which includes sport fields, community centres built by the department under the Breaking New Grounds Policy that will see a massive 7 000 new homes built on completion of the project.

The 200 houses already complete for the initial 1 000 houses will be handed over to beneficiaries by MEC Helen Sauls-August during the Public Service Week to be held in Elliot Dale next week. These beneficiaries’ qualify for the government housing subsidy grant which is between the income brackets of R3 500 - R7 500.

The houses will be handed over to 200 beneficiaries and are split into two, 80 houses are in ward 26 (Nqatyana Location) and the remaining 120 houses are in ward 17 (Manzi Location). Some of the beneficiaries are destitute who qualify for the government housing subsidy grant.

Over R100 million rand would be spent on the entire construction of first phase of 1 000 homes with other amenities like community centre and sport field. The MEC will also launch 800 new homes to in addition to the 200 already completed to make the 1 000 homes of the first phase.
