Transport Deputy Minister, Ms. Sindisiwe Chikunga, will give a keynote address and engage with key transport sector stakeholders and operators at a national workshop in Polokwane on Friday, 5 October 2012.
The national workshop will focus on the Road Transport Management Standards (RTMS) which were published by the South African Bureau of Standards (SABS).
If implemented by transport operators, consignors and consignees as part of their standard operating practice, the Standards will serve to assist the Department achieve its objectives of reducing overloading, heavy vehicle crashes and thereby improve road safety, in line with the Department's 2012 theme for the October Transport Month Campaign, namely, “Working together to provide a safe and reliable transport system”
The RTMS have the potential of making a significant contribution towards the preservation of the road network infrastructure, the improvement of road safety and improving the quality of life of citizens.
The Standards also focus on load securement, driver wellness, vehicle maintenance and serve to assist organizations improve their governance and productivity.
