Transport department to host Siyabakhumbula road safety commemoration

Following an increase of motor vehicle accidents on the N2 between Qumbu and Kokstad, the Eastern Cape Department of Roads and Transport will host a Siyabakhumbula Road Safety Awareness campaign in commemoration of the people who lost their lives on our roads.

The road between Qumbu and Kokstad is regarded as the stray animal hazardous location as per the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) assessment of April 2009. According to accident reports, at least 51 lives were lost unnecessary between Qumbu and Kokstad between January 2009 and August 2009.

This event will serve as platform to raise awareness on dangers caused by unattended animals on our roads to encourage commitment to stock owners to look after their livestock.
