Tourism hosts International Tourist Guiding celebrations at Maropeng, 19 to 20 Feb

The Department of Tourism in partnership with the Gauteng Tourism Authority (GTA) will host the International Tourist Guiding Celebrations at Maropeng: Cradle of Human Kind – Gauteng. Themed “New Approaches to Interpreting Cultural and Natural Heritage”, the two-day event will provide tourist guides a platform to discuss the importance of Preserving South Africa’s Cultural and Natural Heritage, and explore ways of  interpreting and incorporating heritage in making guided tourist experiences authentically South African.

Guest speakers:

  • Professor Lee Burger – Award winning Author and Researcher

Topic: The role of World Heritage Sites in the preservation of Cultural and Natural Heritage and the Promotion of Scientific Endeavour

  • Professor Keorapetse Kgositsile – National Poet and Laureate

Topic: Diaspora and Tourism in South Africa

  • Professor Wally Serote - World-renowned Poet and Novelist

Topic: Culture as a Tool for Economic Growth.

Deputy Minister of Tourism, Ms. Tokozile Xasa, will present her keynote address at the Gala Dinner.
