The Minister of Science and Technology, Ms Naledi Pandor, in collaboration with the Premier of the Northern Cape, Ms Hazel Jenkins, will officially launch National Science Week (NSW) in Kimberley on 30 July 2009.
Commemorated from 1 to 8 August 2009, NSW has many exciting opportunities for learners, students, teachers, academics, parents and the general public in all nine provinces, including teacher and learner workshops, open days, public lectures and seminars, career exhibitions, learner outreach activities, and tours of the country's major science facilities.
This annual initiative, led by the Department of Science and Technology, is aimed at highlighting the important role science plays in everyday life and attracting the country's youth to enter and remain in science related studies and careers.
About 4 000 learners from across the Northern Cape are expected to attend the launch and will be entertained with interactive exhibitions, science shows and workshops.
