Ten new Kei Rail Stations to open in June 2009

A total of ten new stations will be opened on the Kei Rail line on 1 June 2009.
This follows a request from commuters for an increase of the current 13 stations in order to improve accessibility of the service, which they believe is safe, reliable, accessible and affordable.

The new stations are: Ross, Stockton, Bleakmoor, Sihota, Emgcwe, Ntisana, Bashee, Ndyebo, Madontsi and Zimbane.

This will further contribute to the continuous increase of passenger volumes in the Kei Rail service. In April 2009 alone, a total of 9 700 commuters used this service.

In an effort to improve rail safety, the Department of Roads and Transport will resume its Rail Safety Awareness Programmes along the Kei Rail line next week with a particular focus on rural communities and schools close to the line.
