Team South Africa departs for 2010 Supreme Council for Sport in Africa (SCSA) Zone VI U/20 youth games

South Africa is sending a multi-coded team to the Supreme Council for Sport in Africa (SCSA) Zone VI Games to be held in Swaziland, from 11 to 18 December 2010.

The country will be represented by Under 20 teams from, amongst others; football, netball, swimming, basketball, and athletics (including athletics for the visually impaired). Most of the codes will be represented by both the females and males’ teams. The intention of the games is to develop youth through sport and to prepare them for other international games such as the All Africa, Common Wealth and the Olympics.

The Minister of Sport and Recreation, Mr Fikile Mbalula, will bid the team farewell during the SASCOC-organised farewell braai to be held as follows:

South Africa is a member of the Supreme Council for Sport in Africa (SCSA). The Council has 7 zones. South Africa is in Zone VI, with Swaziland, Angola, Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, Mocambique, Namibia, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

The 2010 Games are the fourth edition, with Mocambique having hosted in 2004; Namibia in 2006; and South Africa (North West province) in 2008.
