Talent development centre launch and official opening of 32 Schools Mini World Cup Tournament

The Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation in partnership with the Thabo Mofutsanyana District Municipality will officially launch the Local Talent Development Centre and District High Performance Satellite at an event to be held as follows:

Date: 5 February 2010
Time: 09h00
Venue: Charles Mopeli Stadium (QwaQwa)

Member of the Executive Council (MEC), Dan Kgothule, will officially open this newly established centre in QwaQwa as part of his drive to develop a system where talented athletes are identified, developed and natured in collaboration with all relevant stakeholders. The purpose of the Local Talent Development Centre and District High Performance Satellite is to:

* identify, develop and retain the raw young talent that eventually must represent not only his or her school/club but also the Free State province and, eventually, the country and
* make sport science and injury rehabilitation services more accessible to the broader sport communities in the Free State.

This event will culminate into the official opening ceremony of the 32 Schools Mini 2010 World cup Tournament. The 32 Schools Mini 2010 World Cup Tournament serves as one of the provincial platforms to create hype towards the 2010 FIFA World Cup to be hosted in our country and province. The opening ceremony will be characterised by activities such as the march pass by 32 learners with flags of participating countries represented by each of the 32 schools. The matches of the two schools representing South Africa and Mexico as well as those representing Uruguay and France will kick off after the opening ceremony.

Your media house is cordially invited.
