'Taking the dti to the people' roadshow to visit Soweto

The Department of Trade and Industry (the dti) will once again embark on an outreach campaign to inform and educate informal traders, and micro and small enterprises, on the products and services offered by government. The campaign will be jointly hosted with the Gauteng Provincial Government on Tuesday, 8 September, at the University of Johannesburg (Old Vista Campus) in Pimville, Soweto.

It follows a successful leg of the dti's second economy outreach campaign last year and seeks to solidify an understanding among rural and semi-urban communities, cooperatives, existing and aspirant entrepreneurs, as well as the general public, on the available incentive programmes designed to facilitate entry into the mainstream economy. The Soweto community will have an opportunity to engage with government and its affiliate agencies, and obtain on-hand assistance regarding the products and services offered by government.

The following units and agencies of the dti will be present at the University of Johannesburg, Soweto, to educate relevant stakeholders on how to access their services:

* The Enterprise Organisation (TEO)
* Consumer and Corporate Regulation Division (CCRD)
* Cooperatives Unit
* Gender and Women Empowerment Unit
* Export Promotion Unit
* Black Economic Empowerment (BEE) Unit
* National Empowerment Fund (NEF)
* South African Women Entrepreneurs' Network (SAWEN)
* Industrial Development Corporation (IDC)
* Small Enterprise Development Agency (Seda)
* Company and Intellectual Property Registration Office (Cipro)
* South African Micro-Finance Apex Fund (Samaf)
* Khula Enterprise Finance Ltd. (Khula)
* Franchise Association of South Africa (FASA)
* Association of BEE Verification Agencies (ABVA)
* Gauteng Enterprise Development Agency (GEDA)
* Gauteng Enterprise Propeller (GEP).

The campaign further emphasises government's commitment to working together with communities, provincial and local spheres of government, to ensure that significant progress is made in improving the lives and developing the livelihoods of South Africans.
