Stats South Africa tables work programme before finance committee

Statistics South Africa will on Wednesday 17 June 2009 brief Parliament’s standing committee on finance on budget vote 11, where Statistician-General Pali Lehohla will present the official statistical agency’s strategic plan for the year ahead.

Mr Lehohla is also expected to share with Parliament how reporting to the Minister in the Presidency National Planning Commission will impact on Statistics South Africa and how statistics are organised, collated and reported on.

With a distinct need for Statistics South Africa to measure outcomes more effectively, Mr Lehohla and his team will detail their work plan before Parliament.

The statistical agency will also share its views on the proposed creation of a single integrated business registration system in line with the South African government’s Medium Term Strategic Framework.

The business register is the key sampling frame for the production of business statistics. The meeting will take place in Room V475, Fourth Floor, Old Assembly Building, Parliament.
