Statement of the Minister of Energy, Dipuo Peters, following National Energy Regulator of South Africa’s (Nersa) tariff price determination

The Minister of Energy, Ms Dipuo Peters, MP, today (Wednesday, 24 February reacted as follows to the news of Nersa’s price determination:

“We have noted the decision of the independent regulator, Nersa. We respect the decision taken by the regulator. It has become necessary to conclude the price path for the electricity industry in order to eliminate the uncertainty around the funding of the capital programme for the sector.

“This has become even more urgent particularly given the fact that there are indications already that we are coming out of the recession as indicated in the figures released this week.”

The Minister will address the media during the Government Communications (GCIS) organised post Cabinet briefing at the Imbizo room, 120 Plein Street, tomorrow (Thursday) at 10h00.
