State of The City Address

The Executive Mayor, Councillor Kgosientso Ramokgopa will deliver his State of the City Address on 27 March. During his speech the Executive Mayor will talk amongst others on key issues such as housing, infrastructure developments, the roll out of the BRT, crime prevention and new city developments. He is also expected to make a very important announcement.

The details are as follows:
Date: 27 March 2012
Time: 10:00
Venue: City Hall.

To accommodate the State of the City Address, which will be preceded by a parade, there will be road closures in the area surrounding the City Hall.

The road closures will affect the normal flow of traffic in Paul Kruger, Minnaar and Visagie streets, especially around the City Hall and road users are asked to plan their routes accordingly.

The parade, which will consist of 138 officers from the South African Military Services, Metro Police and Emergency Services, 18 officers of the South African Military Services Band, six marked sedan vehicles, 10 motorcycles, four horses, four dogs, one fire engine, and two ambulances will assemble on Church Square. They will then march from 08:30 in a southern direction in Paul Kruger Street to form-up between Visagie and Minnaar Streets on the eastern side of the City Hall, facing west.

Traffic law enforcement officers will be deployed, and directional signage will also be erected.

From 09:20 a prayer will be held, the national anthem sung, and the Executive Mayor’s salute and inspection of the parade will take place.

The Speaker will officially open the Council meeting at 10:00 thereafter the Executive Mayor will deliver his speech.
