Spotlight on AgriBEE Charter

The Portfolio Committee on Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries will tomorrow hold public hearings on the transformation of the agricultural sector.

The hearings will also look into progress made on AgriBEE Charter. The charter was adopted in March 2008 and it aims at, among others, elimination of racial discrimination, addressing the imbalances of the past and ensuring greater participation of black people in the country’s agricultural sector

The committee will receive briefings from departments and other stakeholders on the current status and transformation of the agricultural sector within the framework of the country’s developmental agenda. Other stakeholders include the National African Federated Chamber of Commerce and Industry, AgriSA and Agricultural Business Chamber.

The programme for the hearings includes an overview of the South African agricultural policy environment, commercial and commodity sectors’ contribution to the country’s economy.
