Sport and Recreation South Africa (SRSA) adds sport angle to COP17

The Minister of Sport and Recreation South Africa Honourable Mr. Fikile Mbalula, MP will be hosting a one Sport, Environment and Climate Change Seminar. The seminar’s focus will be on the role of sport and mega sport events in sustaining and conserving the environment.

The upcoming United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCC) Conference of Parties COP 17 provides an opportunity for South African Sport to enter into a global discussion on initiatives that it has engaged in contributing to the Climate Change debates, programmes of action and education.

Having recently hosted a global mega event of the 2010 FIFA World Cup, it makes sense for South Africa to convene a seminar of this nature and stature in order to be recognised for the good work that was implemented by the 2010 FIFA World Cup Organising Committee and the great work that the South African Sport Confederation and Olympic Committee (SASCOC) and National Federations are doing.

The seminar will take place on 24 November 2011, at Zimbali Resorts in Ballito, Kwa Zulu Natal.
