Speaker of House of Representatives of Japanese National Legislature, Mr Takahiro Yokomichi visits Parliament

The Speaker of the House of Representatives of the National Diet (Legislature) of Japan, Mr Takahiro Yokomichi, arrives on Wednesday for an official visit to Parliament. This is the first visit by the Speaker of Japan’s House of Representatives to South Africa.

The relationship between Japan and South Africa is that of a strategic partnership. In terms of South Africa’s defined national priorities, particularly skills development and job creation at all levels, Japan is the largest Asian investor through about 108 Japanese companies present in South Africa.

Mr Yokomichi is scheduled to attend the joint sitting of the National Assembly and National Council of Provinces on Wednesday, when the two Houses hold a debate to congratulate Dr Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma on being elected Chairperson of the African Union Commission.

On Thursday, 20 September Mr Yokomichi will meet Mr Sisulu, Deputy National Assembly Speaker Ms NomaIndia Mfeketo and Chairpersons of a range of Parliamentary Committees.

On Friday, Mr Yokomichi is scheduled to meet Pan African Parliament President Mr Bethel Nnaemeka Amadi at Gallagher Estate, Midrand Gauteng.

Friday, 21 September

  • 17h00: Visit by Mr Yokomichi to Pan African Parliament President Mr Bethel Amadi at the Pan African Parliament at Gallagher Estate, Midrand Gauteng.
