South African Revenue Service (SARS) launches new era for customs

The Commissioner of the South African Revenue Service, Oupa Magashula, will announce a new era for customs on Thursday, 29 July 2010, when the Customs Modernisation programme goes public.

Customs plays a vital role in trade facilitation for South Africa's developing economy. Customs is also critical in the protection of the economy and citizens by preventing the passage of illicit goods and banned substances.

The SARS commissioner will deliver a keynote address which will be followed by a presentation on the Customs Modernisation programme.
