South African Navy marches through the streets of Pretoria to mark 16 Days of Activism Against Women and Children abuse

The South African Navy members from Naval Headquarters will march in the City of Tshwane in support of the Department of Defence and Military Veterans Campaign of 16 Days of Activism on No Violence Against Women and Children Campaign on Thursday,26 November 2009.

The parade will assemble at Church Square at approximately 10h00 and will go through via Church Street and end at Naval Mess Pretoria, Arcadia.

The campaign will focus specifically at generating increased awareness of the negative impact of violence on women and children as well as a society as a whole. In addition the campaign will include commemorations of the International HIV/AIDS Day on 1 Dec 20, the International Disability Day on 3 Dec 20 and International Human Rights on 10 Dec 20.

The campaign’s theme is “Commit, Act, Demand: We can end violence against women and children”.

Chief Director Maritime Strategy, Rear Admiral Bernhard Teuteberg will officiate during the South African Navy campaign when marchers arrive at the Navy Mess. A number of guest speakers will address issues related to 16 Days of Activism Against Women and Children.
